JOSEPH HINCKLEY

Dead in Blue Hill, Saturday morning, November 8, 1884, Dea. Joseph Hinckley, in the 87th year of his age.
The deceased was for many years one of the senior deacons of the Congregational Church here, and worthily did he fill that office. He was a man of strong faith, of lively hope and of adent geal in the course of the Master. Few if any, did more toward advancing the interests of the church and parish than be. His last days were especially peaceful, notwithstanding his bodily sufferings; and for weeks he was patiently waiting the call, "come up higher."
The funeral services were held at his late residence, led by the Rev. E.R. Osgood, who preached a very approprate and impressive sermon on "Life in Heaven," followed by prayer by the Rev. L.S. Tripp, (Bapt.) and singing by a quartette choir led by Mr. C.C. Cough. The sermon, the hymn song, and the prayer only deepened the conviction already had, that a good man has fallen.
Thus within two weeks of each other has our two oldest church members passed away, the other, Dea. Benjamin Atherton, being in his ninety second year. As the Rev. Mr. Osgood, feelingly asked in the close of his sermon, "Upon whose shoulders shall their mantles fall."
