WOODBURY - JACK F. - Hartland, 2017

HARTLAND - Jack F. Woodbury, 89, went home to be with the Lord on July 20, 2017, after a brief illness. Jack was born in Bangor, on March 23, 1928, the son of Llewellyn and Grace (Flagg) Woodbury. He was educated in Bangor schools.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and did a tour of the Far East with the "Westernaires," singing and playing for fellow servicemen.
rom the time Jack was young, he loved music. He sang and taught himself guitar, entertaining country music fans for decades. He did radio shows in early years and played at countless country and bluegrass shows.
Some of his musical accomplishments include the Dick Curless Memorial Award, Living Legend Award, Gospel Entertainer of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year. He was inducted into the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame in 2009. One of his best original songs was "The Ballad of Slim Clark," where he added accomplished yodeling.
Jack also had a deep love for gospel songs and enjoyed being able to share those songs when he entertained.
Family meant everything to Jack and he loved talking about them all. One source of pride was listening to his three children sing together and the many times when he joined in.
He loved talking with people, buying and selling antiques for his famous yard sales, fishing, visiting various restaurants, old westerns, watching the fights on TV, watching the Red Sox play, and playing with his cats at home.
Jack is survived by his children, Diane Briggs and her husband Rob, of Pittsfield; Brian Woodbury and his wife Nichole, of Newport; Amy Dillon and her husband Michael, of Plymouth; and James Woodbury, of Newport; seven grandchildren, Joshua Whitmore and his wife Mary, of Nanjemoy; Joel Whitmore, of Austin, Texas; Jordan Woodbury and his wife Kezzie, of Plymouth; Jared Woodbury and his wife Hailey, of Bangor; Jasmin Woodbury, of Newport; Ryan Dillon and his fiancée Sadie Ferguson, of Plymouth; and Ethan Dillon, of Plymouth; great-grandchildren, Ella Rose Woodbury and Jameson Woodbury, of Plymouth; and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was predeceased by all his siblings, Carl, Verna, Louis, Eugene, and Elva; his daughter, Judy Swaberg; stepson, Roger; and his wife, Eleanor.
Jack's family would like to thank the caring staff at Sebasticook Valley Hospital for his wonderful care during his stay there, and also at Sanfield Rehab and Living Center in Hartland.
