STILLWATER and GUILFORD - Carlton E. Woodard, 85, son of Clinton "Cy" A. and Louise A. (Andrews) Woodard went to meet his Lord, Aug. 4, 2018. He was born Nov. 30, 1932 in Rochester, N.Y.
His family moved to Guilford, Maine, summer of 1938 when he was five years old. He graduated from PCHS, class of 1951. He enlisted in the U.S. Airforce on Aug. 24, 1951, and was released from active duty on Aug. 23, 1955 and received his honorable discharge four years later following his eight-year obligation. He met his true love in September 1956 at his brother's wedding at which he was the best man and Hilda Pooler, of Moscow, was the maid of honor. They were married July 4, 1957. He always said with a chuckle "I lost my independence on Independence Day".
Upon release from the Air Force he returned to Guilford and was employed at Guilford Industries until he moved his family to Fitzwilliam, N.H., during the summer of 1963. In the fall of 1964, they moved to Stillwater, Maine, and he went to work at the University of Maine, computer center, retiring 28 and half years later, on June 30, 1993.
He is survived by two children, Louine Woodard of Stillwater, and Lynn Woodard and his wife, Gwen, of Oakland; two grandchildren, Yolana Martin and her husband, Shawn, of Brewer, and Cameron Woodard of Oakland; great-grandson Remington Martin; brother, Kenton Conroy, three sisters, Marilyn and her husband, Alton Leighton, Lorraine Willey, Paula and husband, John Philbrick; two sisters-in-law, Viola Woodard and Barbara Woodard; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Hilda (Pooler) Woodard in 2015; his parents; three brothers, Merle "Bud", Dale and Roger Woodard; and a sister, Loretta McEwen.
A graveside service with military honors will be conducted 3 p.m., Thursday, at the Union Cemetery in Moscow.
Arrangements are being provided by Birmingham Funeral Home, Old Town, Maine.
