Monmouth - Mrs. Elsie May Shackford, 74, died Friday at Augusta General Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in Monmouth August 25, 1897, daughter of Wesley and Phoebe Slaucnwhite Dayken.
She lived most of her life in Monmouth and was a retired practical nurse.  She operated a maternity home in Monmouth for a number of years, and had been an office nurse for local doctors.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Natalie Jones, Monmouth, a brother, Paul Dayken, Monmouth, two half-brothers, Charles Rolfe, St. Petersburg, Fla., Russell Rolfe, Winthrop;  a foster daughter, Mrs. Ardis Bragdon, Lewiston, and several grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 this afternoon from 32 Bowdon St., Winthrop.  Burial will be in Monmouth Ridge Cemetery in the spring.
