Patricia was born on January 19, 1937, in Monroe, Maine, and was raised by her adopted parents Clifford and Marion Cummings. She took great pride in raising her own family and was happiest whenever they were near. Her greatest assets were her strength and her love she gave unconditionally to all who crossed her path with a special emphasis on nurturing and encouraging children to succeed. She was also a dedicated member of Trinity United Church in Seabrook, N.H.
Patricia is survived by her husband William Ashcroft; son Clifford Miller; daughters Catherine Hilliard, Judith Lovering, Laurie Miller, Evelyn Garnett; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband Roger Miller and her son Roger D. Miller.

Patricia was the second child of Grace Lois Rice Anthony.  Grace married Raymond Lawrence Anthony of Ohio and shortly after had her first child.  The marriage was short lived and Grace returned back to the Rice farmstead in Northfield, Maine.  A few years later Grace, along with her daughter, moved to the Belfast area where she was hired as a housekeeper.  During that time she became pregrant with her second child, Patricia, but could not afford to raise her, so placed her up for adoption.    Grace never told anyone about the second child, not even her parents, and it would be many years later that the two sisters learned of one another and began  writing and talking on the phone.
The young couple that adopted Patricia was Clifford Cummings and Marion Cole.  Shortly after the baby was put up for adoption, Grace returned back to the Rice farmstead, where her and her first child lived in a one room log cabin on the Rice property.

Nellie Frances Pierce, wife of Walden Pierce of Seal Harbor, died on Thursday, Jan. 9,  at 10;45 p.m., aged 28 years, 3 months, 23 days.  The Rev. J.R. Norwood, rector St. Mary's By The Sea, conducted the funeral service at her late residence and preached a sermon appropriate to the occassion.  Since August Mrs. Pierce suffered from that fell disease to which she finally gave way, consumption.  This disease had gained considerable headway before she realized the danger she was in.  But from the very first she proved to be a most heroic and faithful Christian.  Considering the fact that she was so young, with three beautiful children, a most careful loving and faithful husband, she bore her sickness with wonderful patience.  She was Baptized by and had received the "Bread of Life" at the hands of Rev. J.R. Norwood.  She leaves behind her a broken hearted husband and three children to mourn their loss.  They are happy in the knowledge that she fulfilled the Saviour's command, "Abide to me,"

HAMOR - HARRIS - Cranberry Isles, 1882

HARRIS  HAMOR

Mount Desert Herald
November 23, 1882

The remains of Harris Hamor, of Cranberry Isles, who died of fever at Bar Harbor, November 2nd,  were brought back home and interned last Saturday in the family burying ground.  Sad indeed to watch the team moving with funeral slowness from the shore with its burden.  That sombre looking box, enclosing all that was mortal of the bright and promising youth whose agile footsteps lately bounded over the paths through which he was now so solemnly borne.  A sorrowful coming home, contrasting most painfully with his visit a few weeks before, when he appeared so full of happy, hopeful life.
"They go forth from our door,
who shall return no more."
The Rev. B.F. Stinson, who has officicated at so many funerals here, delivered an affecting discourse from the very appropriate text, "Set thy house in order."
The deceased was about twenty-two years old, (not twenty-four as reported in the Herald).  So boyish and peaceful he looked in his last slumber, the words "Rest in Peace"  above the pulseless breast, seemed no idle sentiment.  Bereaved friends must mourn, but not as those without hope, for they cherish the comforting assurance that it is forever well with him who has passed onward a little while before.
