MITCHELL - SETH ALVAH - Brewer

Seth Alvah Mitchell, 91, of Dixmont, died peacefully Nov. 2, 2000, at a Brewer health-care facility. He was born in Dixmont, March 18, 1909, the son of Samuel H. and Sarah (Leavitt) Mitchell.




He attended Unity HS and had lived in Dixmont most of his life. He was a farmer and owned and operated a dairy and poultry farm in Dixmont for many years. He was very active in the town of Dixmont as a member of Dixmont United Methodist Church Dixmont Fire Dept., school board. Selectman, Dixmont Scholarship Association, 50-year member of North Star Grange and past master of Archon Masonic Lodge since 1938. During his life he had worked for Mathews Brothers in Belfast and as a milk tester for the Fair Herd Improvement Association.




Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Clarice (Garcelon) Mitchell of Dixmont; sons, Stuart A & Janet Mitchell of Dixmont, Sheldon & Sally Mitchell of Dixmont, and Sam Mitchell of Belfast; daughters, Sharon Steele of Pittsfield and Sonia & Robert Erskine of Dixmont; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.




Burial will be in North Dixmont Cemetery.
