NORWOOD - JAMES - Bidderford

James Norwood was born in 1864 and grew up on the Norwood homestead, settled by his grandfather Abraham Norwood about 1820 on the Saco River in Biddeford, the 9th of 11 children born to Albert and Mary B. Mitchell Norwood.

On June 11, 1892, he married Katie Tarbox, the daughter of Joseph and Rosetta Edwards Tarbox, and they had two daughters, Maybelle Estelle Norwood Tarbox, and Mary Abigail Norwood Hussey, both of the Biddeford Pool area.

He was a lifelong resident of Biddeford, living next to his birthplace at 589 Pool Road for many years. He was a fisherman and was once the operator of "Jim's" filing station on the Pool Road.

Katie died on October 23, 1915 after a long illness and in 1924 Jim married Gertrude Piper, an artist from Massachusetts, who predeceased him in death on July 8, 1943 after 19 years of marriage. They spent time in both Fortune‘s Rocks and Massachusetts.

James died on May 29, 1945 at the age of 81 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Abigail Hussey, Biddeford Pool, and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Biddeford.
