CORINNA – Avis D. Foss, 93, died November 15, 2002 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born July 29, 1909 at Easton, Aroostook County, a daughter of Dura and Elsie (Dudley) Pattee. She lived in Jackson, attended Jackson schools, and graduated from Newport High School after her parents moved there. Later she moved to Unity and was employed at the Agnes Adams Store for many years. After moving to Corinna, she worked for Mabel Holbrook in her dry goods store, and also worked at Turner’s Restaurant, and the Snowflake Canning Company. She retired from the J.J. Newberry’s Store in Dover-Foxcroft in March 1975. She married Everett Thayer Foss on November 29, 1939. He predeceased her on February 15, 1992. Avis and Everett had the Boston paper route from Newport to Dover-Foxcroft for over 28 years, until May 1990. She was a member of Nokomis Chapter # 42, Order of The Eastern Star in Newport, and had attended the Corinna United Methodist Church.
Avis is survived by a son and his wife, Arthur and Meredith (Gray) Foss of Corinna; two grandchildren, Richard Foss and his wife Samantha of Corinna, and Kelly Hite and husband David of Corinna; 3 great grandchildren, Ricki Lynn Foss, Joshua James Braley, and Kayla Marie Braley, all of Corinna; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by a brother Arno Pattee, a sister, Irma Russell, and a great grand-daughter, Mandi Foss.
Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Monday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna, with the Rev. Dianne Danielson officiating. Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 11 A.M. until the time of services. Burial will be in the Gray Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft.
