In the death of Mrs. Jane Joy this community has lost a valued neighbor and friend. Mrs. Joy was the daughter of the late Deacon Josiah and Sarah Coolidge of Lamoine. She was born in 1841 and was the youngest of 11 children all of whom were left handed but Mrs. Joy.
She was a very generous hearted woman, remembering the poor and less favored than herself. Many a quilt, pretty cushion, socks and mittens made by her own hands, have found their way into appreciative homes. Where any financial aid was wanted she was always ready to do her part. She was the mother of five children; Mrs Mary Butler, Stephen - who died in childhood, Madison, Mrs. Sarah foss and Harriet, the youngest died seven years ago, aged 22. from this sorrow Mrs. Joy never fully recovered. Mrs. Sarah Foss came several years ago to live in a part of her parents home to care for them in their declining years. They were very happy in their home life.
Besides her children she leaves five grand-children, Mrs. Rebecca Scribner, Mrs. Hazel Bulter, and Lee. Hugh Bernard Joy and one great-grandchild, Miss Doris Scribner.
The family especially the aged husband, Gideon L. Joy, who has lived so happlily for 46 tears with his devoted wife has the sympathy of his many friends. Rev. P.A.A. Killman officiated at the services. The floral offerings were many and beautiful.
