FERNALD - HIRAM - Prospect Harbor

Bar Harbor Record
Spet. 30, 1903

It is seldom that our village is stirred with sadness as it was Wednesday morning of last week when the news was received that Hiram Fernald, one of our townsmen had died suddenly at Prospect Harbor.  For several years he has been employed in the sardine factory at Prospect Harbor and was foreman in the packing room.  Eleven years ago he married Ida, the only child of George W. and Ann Whitaker.  He leaves to mourn his loss a wife,, an aged mother, two sisters, Mrs. Foster Bunker of West Gouldsboro, and Mrs. Hiram Whitaker and two brothers, Thomas Fernald of Southwest Harbor, Lewis Fernald of Gouldsboro.  The mourning friends have the sympathy of the community in their trouble.   The funeral was at the Union Church Thursday afternoon.  Rev. Wallace Cutter officiated at the church and the Knights of Pythias conducted the services at the grave.  Mr. Fernald was 44 years of age.
